The Silk Road Publishers Club is an international publishing cooperation platform initiated by well-known publishers. On June 19th, the Strategic Cooperation Signing Ceremony of the Silk Road Publishers Club was successfully held at the Beijing International Book Fair (BIBF).
The Silk Road Publishers Club was proposed by the famous Nepalese publisher Mr. Kiran Gautam and co-founded with Mr. Zhang Mingzhou, the former President of the International Board on Books for Young People(IBBY). The secretariat office is located in LifeTree Culture Promotion Center in Beijing. The purpose of the Silk Road Publishers Club is to enhance mutual understanding and friendship among members, promote practical cooperation between Chinese and foreign publishing institutions, make the cooperation between publishing institutions of its members more closely and effectively, make the output of Chinese copyrights more convenient and efficient, and make the sources of copyright imports more diverse and richer.
The Silk Road Publishers Club is composed of outstanding publishers from China and countries along Silk Road. Its main activities include, but are not limited to, setting up a joint booth of the Silk Road Publishers Club at major international book fairs, organizing closed-door copyright trading events (Match-Making Meeting), and the “Silk Road Publishers Night”. This year is the first time that the Silk Road Publishers Club has made its debut at the Beijing International Book Fair (BIBF). In addition to the above activities, it will also organize visits to important publishing institutions in Beijing.
Kualiti Books from Malaysia, member of the Silk Road Publishers Club, Beijing Bridging Culture & Media Co.,Ltd and jointly with a Chinese game company, have initiated a social responsibility cooperative education project Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, which entered the Mini Kota Buku project of the Malaysian Ministry of Education. Currently, the presales of individual comic books have exceeded 50,000 copies, and the plan is to publish 10 books annually in the future.
The Silk Road Publishers Club were highly participated in the World Children’s Book Forum on June 20th. Wu Shulin, the chairperson of the Publishers Association of China, delivered a speech for the event. Karine Pansa, president of the International Publishers Association made a speech of the topic “New Trends in International Cooperation in Children’s Publishing”. Two Round-table Forums were held at the forum, hosted by Zhang Mingzhou, president of LifeTree Culture Promotion Center. Round-table Forum 1 is about “Integrated Innovation‒New Explorations and Practices in Southeast Asian Education”. Hasri Hasan, deputy CEO of Malaysia Perbadanan Kota Buku, Peak Ye, director of IP Operations at Moonton , Keejun Yeo, general manager of Malaysia Kualiti Books made speeches.
Round-table Forum 2 is about “The Path and Challenges of International Communication of Chinese Stories”. Kiran Gautam, president of Nepal Current Publication, Alanoud Ali, programs and publisher relations manager of Emirates Publishers Association, Bwebare Nicholas, deputy publishing manager of Uganda Fountain Publishers Ltd. made speeches.
According to the preliminary statistics up to now, the Silk Road Publishers Club Match-Making event has received a total of 903 titles of copyright trade intentions and interests. Among them, 751 titles are sold from China to overseas, 124 titles are sold from overseas to China, and 4 are co-publishing projects. In addition to Sino-foreign copyright trade, there are 24 intentions and interests between international publishers.From June 19th to 23rd, 2024, the Silk Road Publishers Club displayed exhibits from their own countries at the 5A B11 united booth of BIBF and communicated with Chinese publishers and readers.
The activities of the Silk Road Publishers Club have aroused widespread repercussions and attention.
Zhu Yongxin, vice chairperson of the 14th CPPCC National Committee and executive vice chairperson of the CAPD Central Committee and IBBY-iRead Outstanding Reading Promoter Award winner, had an inspection tour to BIBF and the Silk Road Publishers Club united booth.
Zhang Zehui, director of the Import and Export Administration of the Propaganda Department of the Central Committee of the CPC., came to visit the booth.
